HISTORY OF
THE WHITE PLAINS BAR ASSOCIATION

The White Plains Bar Association was founded in 1947, a time when the practice of
law in White Plains was more akin to that of being a country lawyer. The Association
has grown from a handful of lawyers to today being an association of over 300
members and one of the largest local bar associations in New York State.
Our membership consists of local solo practitioners, members of large Westchester
County firms, and local, state and county court judges.

Over the years, the Association has evolved to become an Association that
encourages interaction of its members and provides an opportunity to network among
other professionals, while offering a variety of community outreach programs of benefit
to the White Plains community. The Association has in the past collaborated with the
White Plains School District to be involved in the Lawyer in the Classroom project that
occurs on Law Day. The Association is also proud to be an annual co-sponsor of
Take Your Children to Work Day that provides children with a comprehensive tour of
the Charles L. Brieant Federal Courthouse located in White Plains and includes
presentations from the U.S., parole service, FBI Agents, federal prosecutors, defense
counsel and judges. The Association also co-sponsors the annual Ninth Judicial
District Gender Fairness Committee's Essay contest for high school students and
annually the Bon Vergari Public Service Award and the Isaac Ruben Clinical Award to
outstanding students at Pace Law School.

From September through June of each year, the Association sponsors monthly
luncheon meetings held the third Wednesday of each month at the Brazen Fox, 175
Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Each month a topic of local
or regional importance to the White Plains legal community and the community at
large is presented. Past topics have included presentations on environmental issues,
foreclosures, presentations from local, state and federal judges, ethics and
professionalism and general issues of importance to civil and criminal practitioners.
The Association also hosts several signature events including its annual holiday party
held in December, Annual Meeting and Golf Outing held in May and a Past President's
luncheon convened in June at which time the Association's Bon Vergari public service
and Isaac Ruben Clinical Awards are presented.

Membership in the White Plains Bar Association offers a unique opportunity to interact
and network with others in the legal profession who live, work and/or practice in White
Plains in a setting designed to foster professional growth.
