U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE KENNETH M. KARAS,
U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE CATHY SEIBEL,
AND U.S. MAGISTRATE JUDGE LISA MARGARET SMITH
OF THE SDNY
ADDRESS THE WHITE PLAINS BAR ASSOCIATION

On October 15, 2008, the WPBA had the pleasure of being the first local bar association
to be addressed by the Honorable Kenneth M. Karas and the Honorable Cathy Seibel,
U.S. District Judges from the Southern District of New York in White Plains. They were
introduced by the Honorable Lisa Margaret Smith, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern
District of New York. Both Judge Karas and Judge Seibel were appointed to the bench
after having served as Assistant United States Attorneys. Notably, they welcomed
inquiries and stressed that they would do their best to serve the legal community and our
clients. They also complimented the level of professionalism of the local bar.

Magistrate Judge Smith also delivered remarks about the Honorable Charles Brieant,
who is greatly missed and who was not only a revered jurist, but generous to our
membership by opening up the Courthouse and participating as a Co-sponsor in the
annual Take Your Children to Work Day for our members and their children.
